Tip of the Week

The Legend of the Blarney Stone.

People go Blarney to kiss the Blarney Stone and so obtain the ‘Gift of the Gab’ – the ability to speak without stopping. Cormac McCarthy, once King of Munster and owner of Blarney Castle, is said to have been given half the Stone of Scone from Robert the Bruce. McCarthy provided 4000 men from Munster to assist Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn in Scotland (in 1314).

The Stone was given to McCarthy as a thank-you present. Today, it is known as the Blarney Stone and is built into the battlements of Blarney Castle.
